45 ml Light Rum Ice cubes45 ml Dark Rum30 ml orange juice30 ml FRESH lime juice (NOT Rose's or other bottled)1/4 cup passion fruit juice, or 1 tablespoon passion fruit syrup1 teaspoon caster sugar1 teaspoon GrenadineCherries with stems, and orange slice to garnish |

In a cocktail shaker, add lemon juice, rum, passion fruit syrup, and crushed ice; shake vigorously for 1 to 2 minutes and then strain into a tall glass or hurricane glass.
Garnish with an orange slice and a maraschino cherry.
Makes 1 serving.
A classic cocktail that is fruity and strong with the two star ingredients ¨C rum and passion fruit. First created in 1939 at the Hurricane Bar in New York. With other fruit juices added, this drink can be prepared like a type of fruit punch, with a big alcohol kick. During the whisky shortage of World War 2 in the US, Caribbean made rum remained very easy to get. ThatĄ¯s why many rum-based cocktails were developed in this period. |
